When whales inexplicably wash ashore on the beaches of his former village, Tio Grande returns to Mexico to find his country rotting, his family haunted, and his house swarming with faux-environmental-aid workers. After his sister, his nephew, and the woman he left behind refuse to recognize the signs of what he's certain is the apocalypse, Tio Grande ravages through his own predatory past in order to drive his family over the brink of extinction and into salvation. A new play that ruptures the boundaries of homeland and blurs the border between fact and faith, We Too Are Mammals wrangles with issues of globalization on a sweeping and an intimate scale.
