Jilted Lovers, Bad Kids, Dreams, Drums & Desires: Out by Ten Mixes Music & Stories
Out by Ten producer, Susan Seliger, presents Jilted Lovers, Bad Kids, Dreams, Drums & Desires: A Mix of Stories & Music. Come hear what it's really like to tour the country with a rock 'n roll band, recover from jilted love and grow up as the "bad kid".
THE TALENT: SINGER/SONGWRITER Melaena Cadiz
Melaena's expansive voice -- an instrument as powerful as her flawless guitar-plucking -- can hypnotize you one moment and rattle your bones the next. Her original songs evoke characters wrestling with emotions that haunt us all -- love and sadness, desire and defeat.
This beautiful singer/songwriter/guitarist, born in Michigan, based in Brooklyn, has played venues across America. Her latest album, Deep Below Heaven, a line snatched from a Sam Shepard short story, is both literary and heavenly.
American Songwriter described her as " vintage Bob Dylan meets Emmy Lou Harris." One thing's for sure: Melaena weaves a mix of folk, pop and country that'll put a spell on you...for life.
STORYTELLERS: Moth SLAM WInner and Rock n' Roll Drummer
DAVID CRABB David, a Moth Story Slam host and three-time Moth Slam winner, is a performer writer and teacher in NYC. His solo show, Bad Kid, was named a New York Times Critics'Pick and is coming back in July. His memoir, based on his Bad Kid show, is coming out as a Harper Perennial book next month.
The Wall Street Journal praised him as a performer capable of guiding a crowd "from belly laughs to pin-drop silence."
JEREMY DRIESEN] Back in the day, Jeremy had another life very different from his respectable life now. He was a rock 'n roll drummer for the likes of Billy Idol, Richie Havens, Gary US Bonds, Chuck Berry, Lesley Gore, Bo Diddley and Little Anthony & The Imperials.
Jeremy toured the country, performing at Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Radio City Music Hall, not to mention Joe's Pub, and many, many dive bars throughout the United States. And he's at Out by Ten to tell those tales.
The Time: 7:30-9:30 PM on Thurs., April 30, 2015.
The Deal: Our $20 admission fee ($18 in advance) includes free wine and cheese and cookies.
