The Canterbury Tales
It is April, 1385, and a group of pilgrims set of for Canterbury, agreeing to pass the time with a tale-telling contest. The resulting stories - some dramatic, some thought-provoking, some merely hilarious - are as diverse as the extraordinary mix of people who tell them.
Adapted for the stage in modern, day-to-day English from the most famous collection of stories in the English language, Lumina's Canterbury Tales takes a fresh look at this enduring gem, performing each tale in a different style and period to reflect the timelessness of Chaucer's imagination.
Thrill to the horror of the Pardoner's Tale, be amazed by the modernity of the Wife of Bath's, and guffaw as they've done since the middle ages at the innocent rudeness of the Miller's!
With a cast of over thirty actors from the Silver Spring/Takoma Park community, originally composed songs, and musical accompaniment by the fabulous Blackjacks, THE CANTERBURY TALES is an entertaining and illuminating romp through the middle ages, ideal for all the family!
