THE KINKS RARE CLIPS (1964-1975)
Tuesday, January 18 at 7:30pm
Members $9 / Public $13 Incl. Reception
Guest Speaker: Archivist BILL SHELLEY
The Kinks were one of the essential bands of the British Invasion. After exploding onto the
charts with the hits You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night, they became a
sensation on British television and famous for terrific live shows. At the height of their early
fame they became embroiled in contract disputes with the American Federation of Musicians
Union that resulted in The Kinks being banned from performing in the U.S. The Kinks were
therefore not actively promoted here until Lola was released in 1970. This evening will feature
rare performances of many of their greatest songs, including those that were originally heard
only in Europe. Along with their brilliant concerts, The Kinks were beloved for the biting wit and
sharp social satire of the songs created by writer/guitarist/vocalist Ray Davies and his brother
Dave. The group's albums Village Green Preservation Society and Arthur are ranked alongside
Sgt. Pepper by many fans. If you are less familiar with The Kinks, come and discover them. If you
are already a fan, you won't want to miss this unforgettable evening as we celebrate the music
of The Kinks in stunning rarely seen performances from television, concerts, promos, and behind-the-scenes footage. The show will
include Sunny Afternoon, See My Friends, Waterloo Sunset, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, and Celluloid Heroes. Approx. 90 min.
