Wallingford Community Kitchen - MLK Day Celebration
A Celebration of MLK Day
Join us in our first Wallingford Community Kitchen of 2011 on January 14th starting at 5:30pm. As always, this will be at our host site, the Wallingford COMMUNITY Senior Center (WCSC), 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Room 140 Seattle, WA. This will be an exciting one with gifted chef and local cooking instructor Patrice Savery leading us in a celebration of Martin Luther King Day. We will be making:
• Johnny Cakes – cornmeal pancakes
• Black Eyed Peas
• Braised greens
• Sweet Potato Pie
We will cook as a community and then enjoy the bounties of our labor by sitting down to share a meal. Participation requires a $9.99 pre-registration fee to cover the cost of ingredients and the facilities. Entrance will be $15 at-the-door. We are also asking those that can, to please donate a bit extra to help out those that could not otherwise afford to attend. We will have a limited number of reduced fee tickets available - please email the coordinator for a password.
Tickets may be purchased here or you can mail or drop a check payable to: Wallingford COMMUNITY Senior Center **Please indicate the names of all people attending**

We also ask that all participants bring an appetizer or drink to share with the group (please no bread products as we receive those by donation). Participation in these events requires a certain level of commitment – we are cooking as a community and that includes work setting the room, cleaning up and of course the fun stuff of cooking and eating. We ask that all participants do their best to arrive by our start time of 5:30pm. If you are new to attending, you may want to arrive a few minutes early to find the bathrooms, stash you personal items and get comfortable with the set-up. If for whatever reason you cannot arrive on-time, please plan to stay with us to the end of the night. Ideally we try and wrap up by 9pm – the ability to do this truly depends on each and every one of you and you ability to step up and proactively keep us clean throughout the event.
As always, bring along your appetite and some containers for any leftovers. The WCSC is always in need of extra containers, please bring along your gently used and clean plastic yogurt, sour cream, salsa, etc. containers to contribute. A quick reminder that as we move into the "cold & flu season" - if you are ill, we ask that you use your good judgment; always remember to wash your hands carefully when handling food and especially after sneezing or blowing your nose.
Thanks & looking forward to seeing all of you there!
