Orange Coast Choir Spring Concert 2007
Presenting our annual Springtime concert, "Canciones de América Latina," performed by OCUUC's very own Orange Coast Choir under the direction of Niké St. Clair. Our theme this year is: music from Latin America!
What will you hear? This is just a small sample!
Canciones Por Las Americas with music by Sid Robinovitch:
Noce de Lluvia, text by Juana de Ibarbourou (Uruguay)
Sensemayá, text by Nicholás Guillén (Cuba)
Olvido, text by Octavio Paz (Mexico)
Canto de esperanza, music by David Goodman, text by Daisy Zamora
Se Equivocó la Paloma, music by Carlos Guastavino, text by Rafael Alberti
Tres Cantos Nativos, arranged by Marcos Leite
....and many more delightful Spanish and Portuguese language pieces!
The concert will showcase the rich choral tradition of South America. The Spanish and Portuguese program from around the continent will feature a wide array of music from Indian chant arrangements from the rain forests of Brazil to a favorite folk song and tango renditions from Argentina. We will also perform a contemporary piece based on a Nicaraguan poem, with piano four-hand accompaniment performed by our very own Beth Nakao and the composer himself, from the faculty of Santa Monica College.
You won't want to miss this spectacular evening of musical entertainment!
Tickets are $10 (plus applicable fees) and children 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is free.
