Geoffrey Castle
Geoffrey Castle is a pioneer on the electric six-string violin. From his beginnings as a street musician in New York City and Paris, he rose to play in the Tony Award winning Broadway production of M. Butterfly. A theme of Castle's career is to destroy people's pre-conceived notions of what is possible on a violin, which he does every time he takes the stage. A bandleader and solo artistwith several critically acclaimed releases on his own Twisted Fiddle Music labelGeoffrey Castle has also managed to share stages with an illustrious group of musicians including Blues Traveler, all of the original and current members of Heart, Buddy Miles, and Alan White of Yes.
"Jaw Dropping Rock Violinist" was the headline when a reporter from the Anchorage Daily News happened to catch Castle in action recently. With his diversity of styles and command of the instrument, Castle has been a favorite performer live on the air on stations as diverse as KWHL (Hard Rock), KMPS (Country - Seattle's #1 Station), KWJZ (Smooth Jazz), KZOK (Classic Rock), and many appearances on National Public Radio.
"On his solo album, Mist on the Mountain, the Seattle violinist offers an eleven-track collection of stunning originals showcasing his pioneering talent on six-string electric violin. Tapping ancient Celtic melodies and modern pop, rock, and jazz, Castle has created a pure, uncluttered masterpiece. Among the gems is the ethereal Underhill's Waltz, and a remarkable version of Miles Davis' All Blues.
