An Evening of Selected Scenes and Songs
Wonderful plays and songs explore the idea of dance as central to the human condition. "The Dancers", a comic, one-act play by award-winning author Horton Foote, centers on a painfully shy young man as he gathers the courage to go to his first dance. Foote captures a delicate balance of humor and pathos, with lively, well-drawn characters. Scenes from Brian Friel's masterpiece, "Dancing At Lughnasa," pay tribute to the spirit and valor of the past, in his haunting memory play of a family whose sparse existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. These plays deliver insight and drama served with humor and truth, and the songs sung before and after each performance heighten the evening's theme of dance.
