Comedy Returns to El Rio! (Mon, Jan 10)
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Every 2nd Monday of the month @ 8pm at El Rio.
The next show is Monday, Jan 10th.
Comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy) began her stand up comedy career 21 years ago at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District. She strives to produce multicultural, multi-everything comedy shows with the variety of shows she produces each year (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Funny Girlz, The Color of Funny). The line-ups are always a diverse cultural, gender, and sexual orientation mix, and her comedy productions showcase some of the funniest and smartest stand up comics from San Francisco and beyond.
**Jan 9th update: The show will now be a BENEFIT (100% of the proceeds) for the TUCSON ARTS BRIGADE (TAB), a small
community arts and action nonprofit working to overcome hatred and violence through the arts.
TAB provides a place for disconnected youth to make art, work together with other members of their community, think critically, and find other ways to use their energy...than going out and buying guns. www.tucsonartsbrigade.org
The Monday, Jan 10th show features:
Maureen Langan (from NY), Harmon Leon, Ray Ferrer, Candy Churilla, & Lisa Geduldig.
MAUREEN LANGAN performs all over the US and in Canada and Ireland. She performs regularly at Caroline's on Broadway in New York City, where she lives. She's been on The Joy Behar Show, Comics Unleashed, and HBO. Maureen was a finalist in the 2009 San Francisco Comedy Competition. She's the first woman since Ellen DeGeneres to finish in the top three. She's the 2000 MAC Winner for Best Female Comic (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs). www.MaureenLangan.com
HARMON LEON, is a comedian, filmmaker, and author. He has appeared on The Howard Stern Show, Last Call With Carson Daly, Penn & Teller's Bullshit, VH1, as well as the BBC. He's performed comedy around the globe including the Edinburgh, Melbourne, and Montreal comedy festivals. Harmon is also the author of 6 books including National Lampoons Road Trip USA. His stories have appeared in Esquire, Wired, Salon, Penthouse, and Maxim. You can read his columns on The Huffington Post and at the SF Chronicle's SFGate.com.
RAY FERRER is a Bay Area-based humorist and drag performer (Coco Lopez) who has presented his work along the East Coast and in Puerto Rico. Locally, Ray has performed at QComedy, Writers with Drinks, The Castro Street Fair, Funny Girlz, and various other sundry comedy/spoken word venues. RayâÂÂs comedy looks at how hilarious it is to be Cuban, Irish and queer. Ray is the host of the monthly "Dynasty Night," an evening of costume-wearing, camp-loving TV-watching in a Beaux Arts mansion on Lake Merritt in beautiful Oakland.
CANDY CHURILLA's dark, edgy act includes topics ranging from men, her love of cocktails, pop culture, and more. What this lovably twisted comic lacks in self-control, she makes up for in self-involvement. Her life started humbly enough in Scranton, PA where she learned to drink. As a little girl, she dreamed of escaping Scranton to make a better life for herself and she finally has--in Oakland where she hosts the monthly Backroom Comedy at McNallyâÂÂs Irish Pub. Candy won 3rd place in CAâÂÂs Funniest Female Contest and appeared on Last Comic Standing.
LISA GEDULDIG is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Comedy Returns to El Rio; and Charo.
