Kaleidoscope In Concert
The Creative Dance Center's resident modern dance company, Kaleidoscope Dance Company, presents Kaleidoscope in Concert at the Broadway Performance Hall Mother's Day weekend, May 8, 9, and 10. This rich and diverse show features new works by local and nationally recognized choreographers. A playful romp exploring young love and rejection choreographed by Jim Coleman and Terese Freedman is set to 3 wonderful pop songs of the 60's, Blue Moon, Stand by Me, and Runaround Sue. Kaleidoscope Artistic Director Anna Mansbridge premieres two new works, one created in collaboration with harpist Leslie McMichael and performed with live music and another created with the dancers surrounding the idea of identity. Rhonda Cinotto was inspired by the playful dancing figures made famous by Keith Haring, the choreography combines angular shapes of the body and complex rhythmic patterns in a light-hearted jazz dance. The boys and young men of Kaleidoscope will be featured in a work created especially for them by Michael Garber. Other dances include work by Louisa Fish-Sadin who explores the cycle of life and Sylvie Baldwin who contrasts the three dimensionality of the human spirit against society's expectations for individuals. Pieces by Wade Madsen, Ellie Sandstrom, James Brosnahan (a fun swing dance to Count Basie and Duke Ellington!), Kaleidoscope dancers, and Arthur Stamey-Mills round out this meaningful and mesmerizing concert. Kaleidoscope's unique blend of talent, enthusiasm, and soul will delight and captivate audiences of all ages. Kaleidoscope in Concert celebrates the joy of dance with an exceptional balance of youth and professionalism. Kaleidoscope Dance Company is made up of young people ages 7-17.
