Kung Pao Kosher Comedy and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Now in its 6th year, this monthly (every 3rd Thursday) comedy show features an eclectic mix of comedians.
This month features: Steve Lee, Loren Kraut, Priyanka Wali, Nate Blanchard, and Lisa Geduldig
Steve Lee is maybe the only Chinese disabled stand up comedian working in America. His comedy is mainly centered around living with disability and racism, and his content is very original. Rather than being encumbered by stereotypes, Lee is vitalized by them, and winks back at us through their transparencies. He blends storytelling and punchlines to convey his belief that we are all equal - equally ignorant, fallible, weird, and wanting to be free. Steve grew up in Hong Kong and came to the US as an exchange student to go to high school in Kansas City.
Loren Kraut is awkwardly hilarious. Her unorthodox style of comedy juxtaposes playfulness with deeply dark humor. She turns grim subject matter, like depression and suicide, on its ear, presenting the bleakness of mental illness with unexpected wit and levity. Ever the outsider, Loren gives us a glimpse into her weird, silly and often tragic world that, in the end, is surprisingly life affirming. Loren performed at the Punch Line In SF and Sacramento, and SF Sketchfest the last 3 years. She was a finalist in the Killer Laughs Comedy Competition 2014, and also a finalist in the Battle of the Bay Comedy Competition 2007 and 2009. She also produced & co-hosted "Life with Laughter" a monthly variety showcase.
Priyanka Wali, M.D. is a stand-up comedian based in San Francisco. She performs routinely all throughout California, including the Punchline, Cobbs, Yoshi's, and the Purple Onion and has participated in festivals including the Bay Area Hella Gay Comedy Festival and Sedona International Film Festival in Sedona, Arizona. She is also a practicing physician in Internal Medicine in San Francisco.
Nate Blanchard started his comedy career at age 18. He quickly established himself in San Francisco, earning appearances at the Punchline, Harvey's, and SF Pride. But the siren sounds of cheap rent, smoky bars and an emerging international comedy scene drew him to Berlin in 2010, where he further evolved his own brand of comedic sass and crass. He featured in the viral YouTube video, "Sh*t Expat Berliners Say," and has toured to Leipzig, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, and London. His comedy show, the Neukölln Confessional, is currently airing on the German television channel, ALEX. He likes Merlot, cigarettes, and Goldfrapp.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (now in its 23rd year); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
