Joan Soriano & Puerto Plata: The Roots of Bachata
Two generations of Dominican musicians join together for an unforgettable night of bachata and son! If you like the Buena Vista Social Club, you're going to fall in love with Joan Soriano and Puerto Plata.
Bachata, one of Latin music's most popular styles, has its roots in the rural areas of the Dominican Republic. This guitar-based music draws upon a variety of influences from Africa and Europe. For this concert, we bring together an old-time veteran of the guitar tradition (Puerto Plata) with a younger bachatero, Joan Soriano. These two musicians will give the audience a unique perspective of Dominican music in all its forms -- bolero, merengue, ranchera, mangulina, bachata and son.
