Event
Jewish Delis in America hosted by Steven Safern and Andrew Wash from Hershels East Side Deli
From a Slow Food perspective this is an interesting concept because it evolved from a way to feed Jewish immigrants from various European cultures who came to New York city in the early part of the 1900s to what is now a Jewish American icon. It started first with pushcarts on the streets to an indoor shop called the delicatessenÂ. This class will explain the history and origin behind many of the traditional dishes that we think of when we think Âdeli foods. HerschelÂs Deli, located in the center of the Reading Terminal Market, will host this tasting of Jewish specialties and show you how to prepare these dishes for yourself at home.
