Canterbury: The Miller's Tale at the McCune
The McCune Rare Book Collection will be converted to a "pop-up" Theatre for a limited number of special performances of Magical Moonshine Theatre's The Miller's Tale, performed with actors, medieval music, puppets and Victorian Paper Theatre. Artist Michael Nelson has adapted William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones's Kelmscott Chaucer into a beautiful new production, with multi-tiered staging and some magical effects.
THE STORY: In The Miller's Tale, the Reeve insists the Miller is too drunk to recount any tale but the Miller goes ahead, spinning a bawdy yarn about sex, love, infidelity, trickery and midnight shenanigans. Our play proceeds on several levels, with the actors/musicans taking the roles played by both Chaucer and the Innkeeper who encourage the tales, the hand puppets playing the roles of the story tellers, and the beautiful paper scenes and figures telling the tales themselves (when the hand puppets or actors let them!)
THE EVENT: We will start with 30 minutes of adult refreshments and a chance to gaze upon (and possibly even touch) treasures of the McCune Library, followed by A Small But Important Joust, and other opening Acts. Next will come the Miller's Tale in all its glory, and after, meet and greet the artists and possibly even a backstage tour.
THE TICKETS: We have general seating tickets but for those who wish to support the McCune Collection and the next Canterbury Tale production of "The Reeve's Tale," you may opt for the Lordly Patron of the Arts ticket, which also buys you a Reserved, Royal Seat in the big, comfy chairs up front where you can hobnob with the Purchased Peerage.
