Fiddler on the Roof - Montgomery Blair High School
Fiddler on the Roof turns fifty this yearand returns to the Blair stage after almost twenty years. Based on the classic tales of Sholem Aleichem, it is the story of Tevye, a poor milkman, his wife Golde, their five daughters, and their swiftly-changing corner of the world. In the waning years of tsarist Russia, with revolution in the air, can Tevye and his family hold on to their ancient ways and still embrace new ones? When creators Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick were wrestling with a strong opening number for their fledgling show, director/choreographer Jerome Robbins asked, "What's it about?" The pair thought a moment, then replied: "Tradition." That gave shape to this classic of the American stage, and audiences for half a century have shown their deep love for this timeless and universal story. Full of love, humor, pathos, change, and (of course) tradition, Fiddler on the Roof is a winner of a show for the whole family.
