Colin Ross Trio
Port Ludlow's Roadhouse at the Bay Club will be rockin' with boogie-woogie, roots/blues and jazz on Saturday, January 15, at 4:00 p.m. Featured attraction will be the Reno-based Colin Ross Trio with drummer Bryan Jenkins, bassist Jerry Spikula and Ross playing piano and guitar with one-hot mama vocalist and guitarist Mig O'Hara.
Ross began on classical piano at age five and now plays a variety of instruments and styles. "I love music that's on the cusp between jazz and blues," he says. A lot of his music - both the standards and the originals - hits the sweet spot between classic jazz and traditional blues, with the rhythmic structure of the blues but the harmonic complexity of jazz chord progressions. Blues is the common thread in American music. Ross's working definition of the blues covers everybody from Duke Ellington to Muddy Waters and his concert will include material by composers like Count Basie, Robert Johnson and Bessie Smith as well as originals by Ross that fit well with the vintage classics.
Presented in cabaret format with the audience seated at tables, enjoying adult beverages and snacks, the Arts Council promises to make this a party that is sure to brighten your dreary January. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. for table selection, beverage purchase and viewing an art exhibit of drawings in colored pencil by Artists League member Jeanne Joseph. Put a table together with neighbors and friends. Individual tickets sell for $20 each.
Following the concert head on down to The Fireside Roadhouse at The Inn for a no-host supper of comfort food from the good ol' U. S. at recession-era prices. Chef Dan will prepare typical roadhouse fare in three courses starting with Cheddar and Ale Soup, an entree of Meatloaf with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Apple Pie a la mode, for dessert. The dinner is priced at only $16 plus tax and tip, which you pay directly to The Inn. Reservations are required; call The Inn at 437-7000 to book.
