Lemmy
(Greg Olliver, Wes Orshoski, USA, 2010, HD, 117min)
A documentary as distinctive and uncompromising as the grizzled subject it details, Lemmy casts new light into the life and works of one of the longest and hardest-rocking lead singers in the history of heavy metal: Ian 'Lemmy' Kilmister. A veritable institution and definitive rock God, he still smokes two packs of Marlboro Reds and sinks a bottle of Jack Daniel's a day, yet does not look remarkably different from how he did when he was sacked from space-rockers Hawkwind and formed Motorhead in 1975. Alice Cooper, Lars Ulrich, Ozzy Osbourne and a cast of thousands attest to this fact as we go on the road with Motörhead and get an insight into the hard-rock life and times of one of the greatest forebears of heavy metal. As Wired says, "He looks like a biker, swears like a sailor and lives the only way he knows how: like a rock 'n' roll machine."
"You don't have to be a metalhead to love Lemmy, an awestruck depiction of a rock god whose eccentricities and longevity make him one of the music industry's more fascinating characters. Wes Orshoski and Greg Olliver's film clearly is fan-made, but the testimonials they collect are wide-ranging enough, and their firsthand material entertaining enough, to convey the subject's appeal to audiences beyond the metal crowd."
