For a hyper-polarized, 60 second sound-bite society in the midst of a Great Recession, Brother,
Can You Spare A Dollar offers a look back to another time and culture - America in the 1930's.
The film is an intimate portrait of the Great Depression focusing on how changes in the economy
have changed our society, and how the rise in our collective expectations and sense of
entitlement may have left us ill-equipped to confront another economic disaster. With
insightful personal vignettes from Ray Adell, Jerry Tucker (Our Gang Comedies), and
others, including our beloved Vic Skolnick, we reconstruct the New Deal era with honesty,
humor, contemporary scholarship, and visual imagination. The film strives to garner insight
and inspiration to face the Great Depressions of the future. (USA, 2010, 50 min., color)
