Philip Howard: The Internet & Muslim Democratization
Information technologies play an increasing role in political transformation: Globally, 1 in 10 Internet users is a Muslim in a populous Muslim community, where young people are developing political identities online, and digital technologies are helping society build independent communication systems. UW Associate Professor Philip Howard (The Digital Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy) finds that while democratic revolutions are not caused by new information technologies, democratization in the Muslim world is no longer possible without them. Presented by The Town Hall Center for Civic Life, with Elliott Bay Book Company. Series media sponsorship provided by PubliCola. Series supported by The Boeing Company Charitable Trust and the RealNetworks Foundation.
