Corrales Garden Tour
There is something for everyone in the 6th Annual Corrales Garden Tour on Sunday June 7, 2015. Sponsored by Corrales MainStreet in cooperation with the Sandoval County Master Gardeners, the self-guided Tour includes 6 outstanding gardens in Corrales. Water-wise xeric plantings are integrated into all the gardens.
A "colorful little oasis in the sand dunes" describes a delightful garden where native plants provides a stunning background for the artist homeowners handsome metal work. A lovely garden near the Bosque features an labyrinth. Another garden has been revitalized with a variety of spaces that accommodate the different microclimates from sunny to full shade using drip, sprinklers and traditional flood irrigation. In the sandhills, homeowners accomplished their goals of integrating the indoor and outdoor living area with an attached free-flight greenhouse, a rose garden, vineyard, a kitchen and a native plant area providing food for wildlife.
Intimate, quiet spaces in a wooded garden near the Bosque have evolved over 40 years of tender nurturing. Blossom-filled beds humming with bees and butterflies border grassy expanses. In another garden that provides a wealth of ideas including a rainwater catchment system and compost bins, a pond with a variety of water plants invites you to dawdle and meditate.
Sandoval County Master Gardeners will be in each garden to answer questions and two lovely quilts will be raffled for the Master Gardener's benefit. Plein Air artists will be painting in the gardens.
Funds raised from the tour will be used for a landscaping project in Corrales Village. When you finish the Garden Tour, take time to enjoy the wineries, the art galleries, Old Church Art Fest, and the local B&B's. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner on the patio of one of the charming restaurants.
