5th Annual Ramp Fest
- Limited tickets may be available at the door, depending on availability for $35 -
This gastronomic event will celebrate the ramp, a wild onion coveted by chefs and diners alike for its strong garlicky aroma and pungent flavor. A spring delicacy that is abundant and forageable in the Hudson Valley, the ramp will be at the center of original dishes created by innovative chefs from upstate New York and the big city.
Ramp Fest will return to Basilica Hudson, a 19th century reclaimed industrial factory transformed into a gorgeous and gritty festival space. A formal collaboration between festival organizers and the Basilica Hudson, the event brings renewed focus to sustainable agriculture, community, and energy, a hallmark of past events.
Located across the street from the Hudson Amtrak station and just two hours north of New York City, Ramp Fest is the ideal spring day trip for city dwellers. Attendees will have the opportunity to indulge in ramp dishes by participating restaurants, a perfect introduction to the Hudson Valley's farm-to-table foodie culture. Beer and wine will be available for purchase from Basilica's bar, and the festival will be accompanied by live music by Chops and Sauerkraut. A powerhouse of environmentally-conscious and like-minded organizations will be on hand to educate and inform guests on issues relating to sustainable agriculture, community, and energy.
This year, as in previous years, Ramp Fest will use recyclable and eco-friendly products wherever possible, in line with the participating organization's efforts to reduce the event's carbon footprint. The event is supported by local and environmentally-conscious organizations Green Mountain Energy, Glynwood, Hawthorne Valley, and Camphill Village.
"The usual impressive army of gourmet chefs inspired by the ramp-as-muse will join with these organizations to educate visitors on their various organizations, as well as reinforce the values of sustainable ramp harvesting, the promotion of regional foodsheds, local farmers and food entrepreneurs, green energy, and sustainable community agriculture," says Basilica founder Melissa Auf der Maur.
Hawthorne Valley Farm will demonstrate pickling and preserving ramps, drawing on their experience making delicious lacto-fermented vegetables in their kraut cellar since 1999. Glynwood will educate visitors on sustainable ramp harvesting, and Camphill Village will be present to educate visitors on their organization. Basilica Hudson is a solar-powered venue with a commitment to green energy and sustainable community agriculture, making Green Mountain Energy's mission of alternative and earth-friendly solutions a perfect pair. Their booth will engage and inform people on sustainable energy, encouraging people to use the power of consumer choice to change the way power is made.
