SLAM IT DOWN
Judith Black - Presenter
Brought to you by Portland Storytellers' Gulld
Story Slams have broadened the participation, audience and awareness of storytelling in our here and now. That is a blessing for all of us that gain our nourishment from the art form. Slam stories, however, have a very different pace and breadth than the folk, fairy or family tales we are used to shaping and telling. In our time together Judith will model a few slam stories and take participants through one model of creating, shaping, and sharing these short, pungent tales culled and cultivated from our lives.
Come with a brief anecdote or a single experience from your life that you would like to shape into a tale. The only criterion, is that the experience has stayed with you. Judith Black creates and tells stories. Retelling history from new perspectives, tickling familial dysfunction, and ironic explorations of aging and eating disorders are all fodder for her tales. Featured on stages from the Montreal Comedy Festival to The Smithsonian Institution, she has appeared 10 times at the National Storytelling Festival, and is the winner of the Oracle Award, storytelling's most coveted laurel.
