The Last Night of Ballyhoo
It's December 1939, and "Gone with the Wind" is about to storm the silver screen. Hitler invades Poland... but the biggest concern of Atlanta's Freitag family is Ballyhoo, a lavish ball that marks the end of the social season for the elite southern Jewish community. The arrival of a handsome stranger from New York, Uncle Adolph's new (and very eligible) assistant, unwittingly becomes a pawn between the two young female cousins in the household. Ultimately, he forces the family to deal with who they really are as they are torn apart and mended again, with plenty of hilarious comedy, sweet romance and unexpected turns. This comedy, winner of the 1997 Tony Award for best new play, was written by Alfred Uhry, who also won the Pulitzer Prize and an Oscar for "Driving Miss Daisy."
