Zemya and Hartlandia
ZEMYA
Passionate about the unifying power of music, Zemya is inspired by some of the world's most colorful cultures. This a cappella ensemble celebrates the diverse vocal traditions of many lands, including Bulgaria, Russia, the Republic of Georgia, Croatia, Israel, South Africa and the British Islesmusic they interpret with their own lush and exquisite harmonies and infectious energy. Performing as a tight-knit quartet, Zemya weaves together expressive, often haunting melodies that transport listeners to far corners of the globe.
Directed by Deborah Gordon, the ensemble includes Barbara Beckelman, Ida Dyment and Ann Swardlick.
HARTLANDIA
Hartlandia is a father/son duo from the hills and river valleys of east central Vermont. They play ancient dance tunes and songs from Ireland, Scotland, Cape Breton and French Canada. This is traditional music at its most basic: one fiddle and one accordion that combine with history and sense of place to create sounds and stories they hope are pleasing to the ear. Tim and Toben Traver are Hartlandia.
