Workshops With Kristen Schier and Amie Roe
The Kristen and Amie Show is coming to town, and while they're here, the dynamic duo will conduct workshops to impart some improv wisdom and skillz. K & A's workshops are always fun and always insightful, so you definitely won't want to miss these great opportunities to add some extra items to your improvisational comedy toolbox!
AMIE ROE - BODY LANGUAGE - 11 AM - 2 PM
In this workshop, students will practice the skills of observing, interpreting, and being affected by everything that's communicated through the body.
KRISTEN SCHIER - SCRUTINY - 3 PM - 6 PM
In various intensive exercises we will together take apart what you do as an improviser to try to understand it more. In this workshop you will learn more about your go to rhythms physicality and scenic choices. With this scrutiny we will hopefully find ways to expand your range. Once you know what it is you do, you can do what you like. The idea here is to champion control and power in creation over habit and predictability.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS: AMIE ROE: Amie Roe is an improviser, therapist, and highly expressive face based in New York. She has been improvising literally since birth in an ongoing, roaming monoscene that has played for various audiences, including a smallish neighborhood in Queens (1984-1995), the suburbs of Long Island (1995-2002), Haverford College (2002-2006), Philadelphia (2006-2012), and Brooklyn (2012-present).
Amie can be seen on stage at the Magnet on Wednesday nights in Megawatt. She was a founding member of Brick, which enjoyed a four year Megawatt run from 2010 to 2014. Amie also performs with best-friend-improv-duo, The Amie and Kristen Show/The Kristen and Amie Show, which has played at over 30 improv festivals throughout the United States and Canada. She is co-creator and a producer of Duofest, an improv festival dedicated to improv duos.
She's proud to say that she has studied improv at the Magnet Theater, the Philly Improv Theater (PHIT), and throughout the country, with amazing people such as Armando Diaz, Louis Kornfeld, Jill Bernard, Craig Cackowski, Keith Johnstone, and Susan Messing, to name a few.
When she is not on stage, Amie is a psychotherapist in private practice. She likes running, knitting, astrology, and iced tea.
KRISTEN SCHIER: Kristen Schier is Philly Improv Theater's Season Producer, as well as an instructor and member of PHIT House Team The Future. She is also Artistic Director of The Philly N Crowd, which performs weekly shows at The Actor's Center. Before coming to PHIT she taught improv for Delaware Theater Company, Drexel University, and The Actor's Center.
Kristen has a B.F.A. in Theater Arts from the University of the Arts and has been working in Philly as a professional actor, improviser and teacher for several years. She has worked with Commonwealth Classic Theater Company, Shakespeare in Clark Park, and Ego Po. She has appeared in many productions including the originally created Art of War, which received a Barrymore Nomination for Outstanding Ensemble.
Kristen has studied clowning intensively with Giovanni Fusetti and has studied improv at The Second City and at the Annoyance in Chicago and the Magnet Theater in NYC. She has taken workshops and classes with such improv notables as Michael Gelman, Jill Bernard, Armando Diaz, Asaf Ronen, Mick Napier, Susan Messing, Jonathan Pitts Joe Bill and Mark Sutton and members of the UCB Theater in New York City.
When she is not on stage, Kristen is incredibly absent minded and susceptible to fraud.
