Artist/Animator Eric Drooker in person
Howl features mind-expanding animation directed by John Hays, former president and founder of Wildbrain, and designed by artist Eric Drooker that echoes the startling originality of the poem itself. Drooker, who collaborated with Ginsberg on his final book, Illuminated Poems, will be presenting a short slide show and a Q&A about his work on the film after
the 7:15 screening on Friday Dec. 17.
HOWL was directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman.
James Franco stars as young Allen Ginsberg, poet and chronicler of the Beat Generation. In his leave-nothing-out style, Ginsberg recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for liberation that led to the most timeless and electrifying work of his career: the poem HOWL. Set in San Francisco in 1957, this American masterpiece is on trial. Prosecutor Ralph McIntosh (David Strathairn) sets out to prove that the book should be banned, while suave defense attorney Jake Ehrlich (Jon Hamm) argues for freedom of speech and creative expression.
