WIYOS
"fabulously skilled and inspired kooks." -LA Times
Formed in New York City during the summer of 2002, The Wiyos have spent eight years touring the globe. They were featured in the BBC television documentary, "Folk America Hollerers, Stompers and Old-Time Ramblers". In 2009 The Wiyos were hand picked by Bob Dylan to tour for seven weeks as the opener of the Bob Dylan Show, with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp. The band's unique charisma transcends typical social boundaries. They appeal to everyone from young hipsters to seasoned music connoisseurs are at the center of the resurgence of traditional American music. The Wiyos are inspired by the music of the 1920s and '30s, but the band has a reputation for gleefully subverting genre distinctions. They seamlessly fuse vintage sounds with the contemporary without sounding forced or affected. With infectious exuberance and theatrical skill, they create a visual spectacle in the tradition of vaudeville-esque performers. The current line-up features founding member Michael Farkas along with Sauerkraut Seth Travins and Teddy Weber. /// Tonight's opener, the Honey Dewdrops, constitute an amazing bonus for tonight's lucky audience! Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish from Virginia perform fresh, original songs focusing on vocal harmonies and tight instrumentation. Influenced by traditional Appalachian music as well as contemporary singer-songwriters, the Honey Dewdrops create music that is powerful and heartfelt. Their new album, These Old Roots, debuted at #1 on the folk radio charts, with the song "Amaranth" at #1, and The Honey Dewdrops as the #1 artist. You won't be getting too many more free samples of this band!
