More safety, more confidence, more freedom, more fun!
Join us to learn the basics: -How to prevent and avoid harassment, attack, and abuse -How to stop a threatening situation with words -Physical moves to use against common attacks
Anyone can do this! People of all sizes and abilities are welcome. You don't have to be an athlete or martial artist to help yourself be safer. Defend Yourself has taught at hundreds of DC-area workplaces, schools, community groups, and more people of all ages, genders, and abilities from all walks of life. Instructor Lauren Taylor has been studying and teaching self-defense since 1985, and now leads Defend Yourself. Lauren specializes in classes for women, for people with disabilities, for LBGTQ people, and for survivors of abuse and assault. She holds a black belt in tae kwon do and is certified as a self-defense teacher by the National Women's Martial Arts Association.
