Claude Bourbon in Concert
The Marshall Grange is pleased to present the return of Medieval and Spanish blues guitar virtuoso Claude Bourbon, Saturday March 16 beginning at 7:30 P.M. Local dancer Lauren Williams will accompany Claude on selected tunes.
Since his last appearance at the Marshall Grange Claude's reputation as a world class guitarist has grown throughout Europe and the rest of the world where he has toured. His concerts are an almost endless amalgam of different influences, melting into each other as he moves from classical openings, across a whole continent of cultural roots, from the Balearic's to the Balkans, and then across to the Mississippi Delta, to a slide reminiscent of Ry Cooder. And in between it all music that would be right at home in the courts of emperors and kings. His inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison, plucking, picking and strumming at such speed and precision that his fingers often seem to melt into a blur. As one person said after Claude's concert here two years ago, "His fingerpicking is exquisite and if I closed my eyes I could clearly hear two guitars playing." His forte is obviously his wonderful guitar work, but he does occasionally burst into song and what you then get is something between Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, combined with a French accent! C'est magnifique."
Now based in the UK, French born Swiss raised Claude is on a North American tour promoting his new CD, "A Drifter's Life". Although the Marshall Grange is small compared to the venues where he usually plays, he keeps coming back because of his affinity for the folks on the Divide and the joy they give him when he performs. If you missed Claude's earlier concerts, you can learn more about him and sample his music and videos at www.claudebourbon.org.
Lauren Williams is a highly talented young local dancer who specializes in Middle Eastern and Gypsy dancing. She will be joining Claude on stage doing interpretive dance to some of his tunes.
