Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, by Alan Ball, directed by Zara Benner
During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. They are Frances (Danielle Diaz), a sweet but sheltered fundamentalist; Mindy (Melissa Clason), the cheerful, wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom; Georgeanne (Lisa Wang), whose heartbreak over her own romantic failures triggers outrageous behavior; Meredith (Lora Oliver), the bride's younger sister, whose rebelliousness masks a dark secret; and Trisha (Laura Domingo), a jaded beauty whose cynicism is called into question when she meets Tripp (Andrew MacIver), a charming, bad-boy usher to whom there is more than meets the eye. As the afternoon wears on, these five women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, touching celebration of the women's spirit.
Written by prolific playwright/screenwriter/producer Alan Ball, whose credits include "American Beauty", "True Blood", and "Six Feet Under".
