King Music Collective
TORONTO March 11, 2015 Kicking off Spring with the third event of their standing-room-
only music series, the KING MUSIC COLLECTIVE is thrilled to announce a solo and "four-
handed" traditional jazz piano performance from the lovely and talented American "stride"
jazz pianist STEPHANIE TRICK and her equally talented husband, traditional jazz pianist
PAOLO ALDERIGHI, taking place on Saturday, April 11th, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. The KMC is so
excited to welcome KMC Members and all arts and music lovers to enjoy this totally delightful
musical experience! During the event, light snacks and beverages will be served. As a
special educational feature, noted broadcaster and jazz journalist TED O'REILLY will be
conducting a brief interview with STEPHANIE TRICK and PAOLO ALDERIGHI during the break Page 2 of 4
between sets. The artists will be performing on King Music Collective Founder MICHELE
MELE's gorgeous FAZIOLI piano - arguably, the finest piano in the world.
About STEPHANIE TRICK AND PAOLO ALDERIGHIPaolo and Stephanie are a "four-hands" jazz
piano duo dedicated to playing the songs of the Swing Era, along with some ragtime and blues. They first met
in the small town of Boswil, Switzerland, in October 2008. This summit was organized every year by jazz
aficionados Jörg and Doris Koran, and was dedicated to the styles of classic jazz piano. After that meeting,
Paolo and Stephanie became mutual fans and realized that they had much in common, even though they grew
up on two different continents. They began to run into each other at various international jazz events and
decided to start playing together. Although their styles differ (Paolo focuses on the music of Erroll Garner, Earl
Hines and Teddy Wilson), Stephanie focuses on Fats Waller, James P. Johnson and Albert Ammons - and
although it is not easy as jazz musicians to play in four hands on one piano without being redundant or
interfering with each other's playing, it was natural to find common ground and exciting to write arrangements
that suit their sound as a duo. Since 2010, they have been performing together in the US, Europe, and Japan.
In June 2014, they released their second album together, Sentimental Journey. Their first CD was released in
July of 2012 and is entitled Two for One.
Stephanie Trick "has come to practically dominate the stride piano field," notes reviewer Jack Rummel.
Harlem stride piano, which developed in the 1920s and '30s, is an orchestral style of two-handed piano playing
that not only swings, but is also technically demanding and exciting to watch. Louis Mazetier, a respected
interpreter of this genre, writes in the Bulletin of the Hot Club of France that she has "won the esteem of
specialists in the genre with wonderful interpretations of stride classics, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and
Don Lambert (which she learned by ear). She plays these pieces with a punch that is matched by her precise
interpretation." With a swinging music style that includes boogie woogie and blues from the late '20s era plus
Fats Waller and Ralph Sutton, Stephanie has performed in many parts of the United States as well as in
Europe in a variety of venues. She currently has seven CDs and a DVD available. More information may be
found on her website at stephanietrick.com
