The Weird, Wild and Wonderful Stories All Around You with Leah Sottile
You've heard the expression "everyone has a story," right? It's kind of a cliche at this point, but this nonfiction-based workshop will prove that it's actually true. We'll spend time generating story ideas, and inspiration lists, analyzing great first lines and killer endings, and talk about the things that make non-fiction and journalistic stories really sing. Bring a notepad, well-rested reading eyes and the willingness to participate. Relevant to both journalism and creative nonfiction.
Leah Sottile is a freelance journalist whose work is frequently featured by The Atlantic, Al Jazeera America and Playboy. She has written on topics far and wide: giant earthworms, Elvis impersonators, My Little Pony fans, drugs, jails, sex, heavy metal, the American Dream and what people will do for God. She is also a fiction writer, with work appearing in Spokane Shorties, Lilac City Fairytales and The Spokesman-Review. She is the 2015 Riverlit Writer in Residence. Newspaper writing isn't her only interest that's dying off she's a fan of radio too, and has hosted two late night heavy metal programs when she was younger and had more energy.
