The Lady's Not For Burning
West Virginia, 1919. The little coal mining community of Cool Clary is a hotbed of religious fervor and small town corruption. Thomas returns from war, tired of the weight of the world and ready to end it all. Jennet isn't ready to go, but circumstances may be out of her control. Can these two find the solace they're seeking amidst the chaos of one extraordinary day?
Theatre@First is proud to present Christopher Fry's 1948 masterpiece, "The Lady's Not for Burning," directed by Renee Johnson.
Fry's themes of love and war, hope and despair, ignorance and intellect are universal, and this glimpse into the search for life's meaning is timeless.
With a strong emphasis on the music and culture of Appalachia, our production brings this topsy-turvy day-in-the-life of Cool Clary a little closer to home.
PLEASE NOTE: Thursday, February 17 is "Pay What You Can" Night. No ticket sales will be offered through Brown Paper Tickets for that night.
