Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Day One (Bouts #1 & #3) Plus Haiku Deathmatch
This night will kick off the 2015 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Championship.
On the first night, 40 of the best poets from across Canada will be slamming with four-minute and one-minute poems.
Doors at 6:30pm. Bout #1 starts at 7pm. Bout #3 starts at 8:30pm. Haiku Deathmatch starts at 10:30pm.
Special Late Night Show: Haiku Deathmatch
Using original haiku, 16 poets or haikusters will battle it out in a head-to-head competition judged by the audience.
Sign-up is open to all and will occur from 10:00pm-10:30pm. Each poet should come prepared to perform up to 29 haiku (depending on how far they make it in the competition). Advance sign-up is not available.
A haiku is a poem consisting of three metrical phrases of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.
Traditionally, haiku is a Japanese form, most often used to describe nature, but any subject matter is allowed in Haiku Death Match. The haiku can be funny, sad, sexy, bizarre, it doesn't matter. Since the haiku is read aloud, the emphasis will be on the number of syllables (17) not the lines.
