GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN
GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN is a dramatic song cycle concerning child sexual abuse and the story of a little girl who as an adult rises above it into a powerful spiritual place. Created and performed by electronic keyboardist Carman Moore and Danish singer Lotte Arnsbjerg against powerful art projections by Caterina Bertolotto, it features modern dance by Kiori Kawai in 4 of its 14 songs. Each performance is followed by a warm but honest audience discussion led by professionals in the field and involving survivors prominently. GIRL..has been performed both in New York City and Denmark some 13 times to standing ovations and is presently touring to Texas, Berkeley, California, and Hawaii. Mr. Moore, a recent Guggenheim Fellow, is an American composer with commissions and performances by the N.Y. Philharmonic Orch., the San Francisco Symphony, Cleveland Orch., and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to his credit. His MADIBA, honoring Nelson Mandela, was recently premiered by The American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Ms. Arnsbjerg is a major Danish film and television actress, singer of both folk and rock music, and motivational teacher. Ms. Kawai is a noted dancer both in New York City and in her native Japan. While Ms. Bertolotto is best known for her creations for Broadway's Julie Taymor. GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN has never failed to move audiences deeply, both by its very special way of approaching a too-often taboo subject and by its lovely and penetrating music and dance.
