The Town Meeting
Voted most picturesque town in Great Doggerland four years running, Little Rikjord instills a great sense of community and attachment in local residents. The town's economic prosperity owes much to the neighboring iron ore mine, however the current seam has been exhausted and the Little Rikjord Iron Ore Mining Company are seeking permission to move Little Rikjord and begin mining iron ore directly under the existing town.
On the eve of a crucial hearing, Little Rikjord residents gather in the community centre to plan their presentation to the Minister. Assisted only by shambolic Junior Planning Officer Benjamin Rennold, Little Rikjord's representatives must choose what is best for the future of their town. Cap-a-Pie, in collaboration with Dr. Paul Cowie, Newcastle University, present a new piece theatre that places you at the centre of the problem and demands solutions.
This play explores how communities react to external pressures and organise themselves. Rather than research participants the audience will be co-investigators. Dr. Paul Cowie will be making a written record of the performance but no personal information will be taken nor will anyone or their views be identifiable in the published research. There will be an opportunity to be credited as co-researchers.
The project is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England as well as funding from Newcastle University.
