The Who Knew Revue (Uke 'n Reed with Jack Landron)
Uke 'n Reed is comprised of Tom Schmidt, Patti Dahlstrom and Russ Manfredi. Schmidt plays the clarinet, Dahlstrom plays intense rhythms on the ukulele, and Manfredi plays double bass. They each contribute to vocals. Their rendition of swing comes from the late 1930's and early 1940's era of jazz music: it's acoustic, bright and happy.
Actor and musician Juan Candido Washington Landron was born in Roxbury, MA. While attending Boston's Emerson College (as a theater arts major), he began singing in the local coffeehouses under the name Jackie Washington, quickly establishing himself as one of the most charismatic performers on the Cambridge folk scene during the advent of the folk revival in the early '60s. Solidly professional, and an excellent guitar player, Landron recorded several albums under the Jackie Washington name during this time.
