operamission - Artist Recital Series
The final Thursday of each month, operamission offers a 90-minute program of great singers in both the traditional and non-traditional art song repertoire.
To inaugurate the series Thursday, March 26, 2015 with 'German Song: A Tour' four singers and Jennifer Peterson interpret classics by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Hugo Wolf, and Richard Strauss. Tenor MARK DUFFIN (Teatro Colón, Deutsche Oper Berlin) performs Beethoven's 1816 song cycle "An die ferne Geliebte" and baritone GRANT YOUNGBLOOD (Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic) offers the songs of Strauss' Opus 27, "Ruhe, meine Seele," "Cäcilie," "Heimliche Aufforderung," and "Morgen." Soprano ELISABETH TURCHI and countertenor DAVID STANLEY flesh out the remainder of the program with favorites of Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, and Wolf.
The second installment is Thursday, April 30, 2015 showcasing Claude Debussy's 'Ariettes Oubliées' (soprano LAUREN KELLEHER), Robert Schumann's 'Dichterliebe' (tenor DAVID KELLETT), and Edvard Grieg's Six Songs, Op. 48 (baritone BRIAN MEXTORF) in its original German.
May 28, 2015 features Metropolitan Opera tenor ADAM KLEIN in Franz Schubert's final 'Schwanengesang.' Award-winning mezzo-soprano KIMBERLY SOGIOKA completes the evening with Hector Berlioz' cycle of six songs, 'Les Nuits d'Été' from 1841.
Conductor Jennifer Peterson joins at the piano and curates the programs.
