11th Annual Cuba Caribe Festival - Week 3
CubaCaribe presents: The 11th Annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance and Music April 9 April 26, 2015 In Search of Soul
The acclaimed annual folkloric and contemporary dance and music Festival will feature three exuberant weeks of Caribbean dance and music performances, master classes, film screenings, lectures and celebrations throughout the Bay Area.
Our final weekend of performances will feature an innovative and diverse representation of Alma (soul) through the highly-acclaimed Afro-Cuban modern style of Alayo Dance Company (Ramon Ramos Alayo, Director), to the heart beat of Africa in Duniya Dance Ensemble (Joti Singh, Director), to the San Francisco Mission modern vision of Dance Brigade (Krissy Keefer, Director). It will take place at Laney College Theater in Oakland.
Performances: April 10-12: Performances @ ODC Theater, SF April 17-19: Performances @ Dance Mission Theater, SF April 24-26: Performances @ Laney College Theater, Oakland Performances: Fridays-Saturdays @ 8pm; Sundays @ 7pm
Special Events: April 9: Film Screening: "Dancing The Drum" Directed by Ashley James, Produced by Roberta Singer. @ Museum of the African Diaspora April 12: "Batey Boricua" Music from Puerto Rico: Bomba, Plena, and more. La Peña Cultural Center April 16: Lecture: De Curros a Especuladores: Black to the Future in Cuba by Umi Vaughn. @ Museum of the African Diaspora; 685 Mission St, SF; 7pm; April 19: Afro-Cuban & Afro-Haitian Dance Workshop.
