Event
In Praise of Christmas
The ensemble will play their own arrangements of the carols in a band-like style, with instrumental tunes and with Lisa Lawson's soprano vocals accompanied by flute, harp, violin, cello, archlute, and harpsichord.
"Our idea was to present the carols as they might have been played a few centuries ago, using all of our contemporary experiences and performing on our period-style instruments," explains Lawson, Music Director of Sacramento Baroque Soloists. She continues, "A performer in the 17th or 18th Century brought their own influences into their music in the same way. We'll be performing with all of our historical training, but since there are no recordings of early performances or written arrangements from the time, we'll do it in our own way."
Most of the carols will be well-known to the audience, including "Lo How a Rose," "Here We Come A-Wassailing," "Patapan," "Joy To the World," and "O Come O Come Emmanuel." Lawson will be joined by Cathie Apple, flute, Marieke Furnee, violin, Michael Lawson, cello, Michael Bocchicchio, archlute, and Ellen Deffner, harpsichord.
