Event
Danish Smørrebrød Festival
The Consulate General of Denmark and New Amsterdam Market invite you to a festival of Smørrebrød (pronounced smoe-bruth), unique Danish open-faced sandwiches made with hearty rugbrød—Danish rye bread—and topped with artfully layered ingredients such as fish, meats, cheese, and greens.
A custom made 21 foot long wooden table at the market will be set with more than 10 varieties of smørrebrød created by visiting Danish chef Trina Hahnemann and local chefs Alejandro Alcocer of greenbrownorange; Caroline Fidanza of Saltie; Christophe Hille of Northern Spy Food Co.; Simo and Tuomas Kuusisto of Nordic Breads; Patrick Connolly of Bobo and the team from Marlow & Daughters. All sandwiches will be made with rugbrød baked by Nordic Breads using regional grain grown and milled by Cayuga Pure Organics of Trumansburg, NY, and topped with regional ingredients, including beef from Grazin' Angus Acres of Ghent, NY and ingredients to be selected from other market vendors.
Purchase a $20 tasting ticket and choose three different sandwiches, which in Denmark make a full lunch. THE TICKET INCLUDES ONE REGIONAL BEER SOURCED BY JIMMY CARBONE. Quantities are limited, so purchase your tickets in advance!
Accompany your smørrebrød with beers sourced by Jimmy Carbone especially for the event including regional American draft from Victory Brewing Company, based in Pennsylvania, and bottles of select Danish craft beer from Mikkeller Brewery, imported by the Shelton Brothers in Massachusetts ($4-$8 each). The $20 Smørrebrød ticket includes one regional beer.
The market will also feature a selection of Animal Welfare Approved farms, which means the are raised outdoors on pasture or range and with the most stringent humane animal welfare standards: Finger Lakes Dexter Creamery, King Ferry, NY; JW Beef, Stonington, CT; High View Farm, North Hanover, NJ; Roxbury Farm, Kinderhook, NY; and Grazin' Angus Acres, Ghent, NY.
