Hansel & Gretel
Hansel and Gretel is the classic Grimm Brothers' tale of a brother and sister's journey through a fearful wilderness. The children are cast out from their home, and left to wander through the dangerous woods. They are enticed by a gingerbread cottage and confront a terrible witch. Ultimately, they are saved by their love for one another and the courage it provides them. This is the latest production by the New Orleans-based company, The Mudlark Puppeteers. The Mudlarks have been adapting classical as well as local folklore for five years. They teach in public schools, lead seminars on the fundamentals of puppetry, and tour widely. The team is headed by Pandora Gastelum, an award- winning writer, puppeteer, and performer. The company features singers, dancers, seamstresses and architects.
Hansel and Gretel will be presented in a fresh adaptation which highlights the power of innocence to conquer adversity. The story will be presented through spectacular, unfolding sets, giant rod puppets, and marionettes. The action is set to an original score by local musical wunderkinds: Ben Aleshire, Ashley Blum, and Teighlor Smith. This piece is all-ages friendly, and is part of the fourth annual New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival, which will be presented in cooperation with Indywood Theater. The festival will feature offerings sure to compel adults and children alike.
Tickets are non-refundable.
