Arc School of Ballet Biennial School Showcase, The Mermaid
Arc School of Ballet Presents its Biennial School Showcase, The Mermaid
Arc School of Ballet (ASB) showcases its students in its year-end performance, The Mermaid, a two-act story ballet. The performance on June 6th at the Bagley Wright Theatre will present more than 125 ASB students, ranging in age from three years old to pre- professional young adults. The Mermaid, from the original Hans Christian Andersen story, has been adapted to the stage in two acts by Marie Chong, director of the school, choreographs original adaptations of stories that are family friendly and that appeal to the student participants. She intertwines dance choreography with fun music and characters that showcase the maturity and skill progression of the students.
The biennial year-end showcase offers all the students of Arc School of Ballet an additional performance experience, along with the annual Nutcracker. Chong carefully crafts the roles of each dancer within the story. The students receive an education in the creation of a ballet: rehearsal focus and etiquette, time management, familiarity with different job roles like costumers and ballet masters, and the sheer time involved to bring a production to performance. The students relish the opportunity to be included in the creation of an original story ballet and the performances inspire their dance training and heighten their appreciation for dance as an art form.
Please join us as we celebrate our eleventh year of turning out dancers.
