The Variety Showcase Show
Here it is: round three of a six-part series brought to you by Minneapolis Spoken Word legend, Thadra Sheridan, funded by the Verve grant through Intermedia Arts. This show combines the nationâs best spoken word artists with the Twin Citiesâ best performers of all disciplines. This month features Chicago's hilarious Robbie Q. Telfer. He will be joined by the infamous drag personality Mrs. Smith, member of this year's winning St. Paul Slam Team Shane Hawley, comedienne Amber Preston, writer John Jodzio, and singer Kerry Alexander. Don't miss this chance to catch artists you've never seen and those living and working right in your back yard. This is the best lineup yet.
Robbie Q. Telfer is the co-founder and curator for the Encyclopedia Show, a live literary variety show being staged independently in over 10 cities around the world. He's been in two documentaries (from HBO and Siskel and Jacobs) for his work at Young Chicago Authors where he organizes the world's largest team poetry slam for youth called Louder Than A Bomb. He's written on two video games, is the poetry correspondent for TimeOut Chicago, and in 2007 was an individual finalist at the National Poetry Slam.
Mrs. Smith will not disappoint. She is hilarious, clever, and very talented. She recently starred in her own show "Mrs. Smith's Halloween Spooktacular.â She is a staple of the ever selling out "Dykes do Drag," has starred in short films and solo performances, was recently seen with Liberace, and is a rising star in the Twin Citiesâ performance scene.
Shane Hawley has been a member of six Twin Cities Slam teams, including this year's wining team from St. Paul. He has performed all over the country in spoken word and hip hop venues. His funny, self deprecating style and creative subject matter always wins over audiences.
Amber Preston is a hilarious presence in the Twin Cities comedy scene; mature, intelligent and witty. Kerry Alexander is a rising star in the music world and will not disappoint. And John Jodzio has blown away some of this stateâs most prominent writers and hip hop artists with his clever words and his dynamic presence.
