FEZZIWIG'S BALL FOR FAMILIES, Footwork, Fiddles & Fun!
FOOTWORK, FIDDLES & FUN!: A FEZZIWIGS BALL FOR FAMILIES, a WONDROUS EVENT at the Parker House Hotel with Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman of "TWO FIDDLES", for the hungry, with ALL PROCEEDS GOING TO BENEFIT THE GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK.
COME, JOIN THE FUN! DANCES OF GREAT BRITAIN that would have been done during the very same VICTORIAN ERA of Dickens' Christmas Carol characters!
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY as instruction for each dance will be given.
LIVE CALLING AND FIDDLE MUSIC by ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S BEST -- "an artful dog, mind! The sort of man who knew his business better than you or I could have told it him!" -- as Dickens described the fiddle player in A Christmas Carol! In fact, Dudley LAUFMAN, a musician and barn dance caller from Canterbury, N.H., was AWARDED THE NATION'S HIGHEST HONOR in the FOLK AND TRADITIONAL ARTS just last year, the National Heritage Fellowship. At 79, Laufman has been involved in the contra dance and barn dance community in New Hampshire for over 60 years, and called his first dance in 1948!
HISTORIC TUNES OF TIMES PAST played during the Victorian Era will be done as well! And when you get a bit thirsty, well, there'll be "HOLIDAY PUNCH" included, that man and beast and children, THAT EVERYONE CAN DRINK to wet your whistle, along with some TASTY TREATS as well!
TO TOP THINGS OFF, we'll END THE DANCE with "Sir Roger de Coverly!" -- THE DANCE DONE IN DICKENS CLASSIC STORY!" But the great effect of the evening came . . . when the fiddler struck up 'Sir Roger de Coverley.' Then old Fezziwig stood out to dance with Mrs. Fezziwig. Top couple, too; with a good stiff piece of work cut out for them; three or four and twenty pair of partners; people who were not to be trifled with; people who would dance, and had no notion of walking." Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
OH YES and ONE SOMEONE WILL GET A SPECIAL GIFT, too!
ONE MORE THING . . . "Traveling Thespian, Thomas Hutchinson," THE ACTOR, WILL BE THERE TO DANCE, too, and have some fun, before he performs the Carol that very night in the same historic "Press Room!"
ALL PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT THE GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK, the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, working to help end hunger in eastern Massachusetts. All events hosted at the Parker House Hotel are being fully sponsored by OMNI Hotels & Resorts, Parker House/Boston, and the exclusive print media sponsor for all Boston performances is GateHouse Media New England.
