4th annual Evening of Sevdah
Artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and America will share their common love for sevdah,  the beloved traditional music of towns in old Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the 4th annual Evening of Sevdah.  Emotive vocalists will perform songs that speak of love in its many shades - unrequited, flirtatious, love of homeland and family.  Instrumental textures will range from the traditional saz to modern interpretations.  This year's event features many fine artists including:
Elvir & Amina Becic - Father daughter duo
Joe Finn - Fiddler of the renown Balkan Cabaret
Daniela Ivanova - Internationally recognized performer and teacher of Bulgarian song and dance
Damir Jurkovic - bass; member of Zlatne Strune
Jesenko Lalic, Music Director - Owner of Studio Aquarius http://www.studioaquarius.com/
Peter Lippman - journalist and saz player
Tali McGill - vocalist
Steve Ramsey - Guitarist of renown Balkan Cabaret
Fehim Salaka - vocalist
Folklore Ensemble SEVDAH of Seattle - One of the finest ensembles of traditional dance from Bosnia and Herzegovina, directed by Denis Basic, PhD http://www.sevdahlije.com/home/
Mary Sherhart - President of Sevdah North America; 2006 WSAC / Artist Trust Fellowship Receipient and internationally recognized teacher and singer http://www.marysherhart.com/
Dragi Spasovski - Professional recording artist from Skopije, Macedonia
       Enes Tirak - vocalist

This concert is part of the broader 4th annual North American Days of Sevdah organized by Sevdah North America.  It is one of many concerts being held in cities throughout North America.  These annual events have touched thousands through live performances which are later broadcast via satellite throughout Europe and North America.  There are currently about 5,000 Bosnians living in the greater Seattle area out of 200,000 in the United States.  SNA recognizes sevdah provides an invaluable bridge for the children of Bosnian immigrants and refugees who were born in North America, and between cultures.  The songs of sevdah take people back to a time before their lives were shattered by war, trauma and displacement, and provides a bottomless well of healing.
