RE-ANIMATOR with DIRECTOR STUART GORDON IN PERSON!
HALLOWEEN ISN'T OVER UNTIL THE FATTEST ZOMBIE DIES
A TRIBUTE TO CULT FILM DIRECTOR STUART GORDON
IN PERSON WITH UNCUT 35MM RE-ANIMATOR AND UNCUT, UNCENSORED SURPRISE CO-FEATURE
"A clever, madcap mid-80s cult classic combining sinister comedy with bloody horror."
- Jeffrey Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
Join us through the spooky hallways of the Balboa as we RE-ANIMATE HALLOWEEN with a screening of two classic splatterfests from director Stuart Gordon, who will be in appearance for a Q&A! After the films, you can exit the theater through the HAUNTED ARKHAM ALLEY.
Based on a story from H.P. Lovecraft, RE-ANIMATOR is about a mad scientist (Jeffrey Combs in a crazed, memorable performance) obsessed by the concept of injecting life back into the dead. The results of his experiments lead into a tremendously fun blend of gore, scares, and humor in one of the greatest horror films of the 80's! 86 minutes. 35MM.
"A frankly gory horror movie that finds a rhythm and a style that make it work in a cockeyed, offbeat sort of way. Gordon creates a livid, bloody, deadpan exercise in the theater of the undead. We have been assaulted by a lurid imagination, amazed by unspeakable sights, and blind-sided by the movie's curiously dry sense of humor."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times
With a surprise UNCUT second feature, also in the Lovecraft tradition.
STUART GORDON is a director, writer, and producer of films and plays. Most of Gordon's film work is in the horror genre, including RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND, CASTLE FREAK, DAGON, THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM (an excellent adaptation starring Lance Henrikson), and the "Masters of Horror" episodes DREAMS IN THE WITCH HOUSE and THE BLACK CAT. In 1970, Gordon and his wife Carolyn Purdy-Gordon formed Chicago's Organic Theatre. As Artistic Director, Gordon worked with David Mamet, Joe Mantegna, and Dennis Franz. He presented the first productions of "Bleacher Bums," "Warp!" and Mamet's first play, "Sexual Perversity in Chicago." In 2005, he was reunited with Mamet to direct EDMOND on the big screen with William H. Macy, Joe Mantegna, and Julia Stiles. Recently he produced and directed a one-man stage show starring Jeffrey Combs, "Nevermore" about Edgar Allen Poe.
