Hudson Chorale 2011 Winter Concert - "Heaven's Harmony"
"Heaven's Harmony" is the title of the inaugural concert of the recently-formed Hudson Chorale. The new group is the result of a merger of the former Choral Arts Society and the Westchester Concert Singers. As a result of the merge it is the largest mixed-voice community chorus in Westchester and surrounding counties. The chorus has chosen the beloved Brahms Requiem with two pianos as the centerpiece of the concert. In the words of Brahms' friend, Clara Schumann, "It is a truly tremendous piece of art which moves the entire being in a way little else does." It goes without question that Brahms was not being boastful when he dedicated it to the whole of humanity. The concert will also include Eric Helmuth's joyous and celebratory Farther Sail, a work based on the poetry of Walt Whitman, Ned Rorem's Love Alone, an elegy to a lost loved one, and the lush and beautiful Magnificat from Franz Liszt's Dante Symphony. It will be conducted by Michael Conley, Music Director of the Hudson Chorale and of the former Choral Arts Society. Mr. Conley is a celebrated composer, pianist, organist and singer as well as a conductor.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door or online.
