The Littlest Birds
House Concert for The Littlest Birds

The Littlest Birds are a nationally touring cello and banjo duo that formed in the Eastern Sierra of California. Together since 2010 they've performed 100s of shows across 34 U.S. States, and Canada, including festivals, concert series, radio stations, farmer's markets, fine restaurants, house concerts, weddings, bars, street corners, backyards, wine cellars, and even one 200 year old MisiĆ³n deep in the heart of the Baja Peninsula.

Recently they've been busier than ever, with several festival performances including The Millpond Music Festival, Mateel Summer Arts Festival, San Francisco Free Folk Festival, Oregon Country Fair, Beartrap Summer Festival, and the prestigious Vancouver Folk Music Festival in British Columbia, Canada. A 2012 performance at Fiddler's Crossing in Tehachapi was recorded by Peter Cutler and rebroadcasted on KPFK's Folk Scene program hosted by Roz Larman in its entirety to listeners around California and beyond. In 2014 they performed live on KPFA's Dead to the World with David Gans, and later had a couple selections from that performance re-broadcast nationally on Tales from the Golden Road and The Grateful Dead Hour. They've performed with Elephant Revival, Rushad Eggleston, Melvin Seals & the JGB, Mountain Standard Time, The Brothers Comatose, Pharis and Jason Romero, Run Boy Run, Joe Craven, Jim Hurst, Mary McCaslin, Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit, and Scott Miller & Reyna Gellert.

Both David Huebner and Sharon Martinson have classical music backgrounds supporting their current foray into Americana roots music. Some years ago you might have seen David on the Disney Channel, twice, as principal cellist of the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, which included a performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Or you may have run into Sharon deep in the forests of the southeast as she studied southern pine beetle ecology for her PhD at Dartmouth College where she also played french horn in their chamber orchestra.

In 2013 they completed their second full U.S. Tour with 60 shows spread across some 20+ states. In the midst of that tour they recorded a few of their live performances and have since put together an upcoming release of live material due out June 8th, titled "Live & Lucky."

For 2014, they toured the West in support of this new release with festival appearances at the CBA Father's Day Bluegrass Festival, San Francisco Free Folk Festival, Oregon Country Fair, Beartrap Summer Festival, Pickamania, and Bluegrassin' in the Foothills, as well as numerous venues across California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and even a brief jaunt as far east as Nebraska.

Live Show Review - The Littlest Birds at The Laughing Goat in Boulder CO, Aug. 2013
"They're marked by the relaxed and nonchalant demeanor that comes with several months of being on the road, taking time between songs to tell stories and engage with the audience, and even inviting another band up for an impromptu jam in the second set. But there's nothing nonchalant about their musical delivery, which is as tight, polished, and professional as it is relaxed and uninhibited. Classical cellist turned old-time fiddler, Dave saws on the cello with the sophistication of a violin virtuoso. Likewise, Sharon could be plucking the lyre of Orpheus given the taste and delicate touch with which she handles the banjo."
