Wisconsin Chamber Choir presents "O Voluptuous Earth"
The Wisconsin Chamber Choir is proud to present "O Voluptuous Earth" on November 19th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. The concert features music predominantly inspired by nature by Romantic period composers and their latter-day admirers. "Voluptuous" part-songs by Brahms, Stenhammar, and Parry rub shoulders with recent American and Canadian works, including the world premiere of "Nature's Cry" by Stephen Chatman. Also notable are Jean Belmont Ford's moving tribute to Wisconsin ecologist Aldo Leopold titled "Sand County" and Kirke Mechem's passionate setting of "The World Is Too Much with Us," from the prescient poem by American William Wordsworth. Soloists from the choir will dazzle with some of the works of Charles Ives, an American whose ground-breaking music was decades ahead of its time. The concert earns its title from British Columbian composer Imant Raminsh's setting of American Transcendentalist poet Walt Whitman's "Smile, O voluptuous cool-breath'd earth."
